Dubai Shopping Festival Office Announces 2008 Creations Aspiring Designer Award
 

The DSF Office has announced the 2008 Creations Aspiring Designer Award for upcoming designers participating in this year’s Creations, a signature event of DSF being organized with BurJuman, a key sponsor of DSF 2008. The selection for the Award will take place on February 22, after the final show of Creations 2008. A jury comprising of eminent global fashion personalities will decide on the winner of the coveted award.

As part of the award, the winning designer will be provided an opportunity to showcase his or her collection amongst international designers during Miami Fashion Week 2008. The award is part of the DSF Office initiative to appreciate the efforts of aspiring designers and to make Creations a launch-pad for successful careers in the global fashion industry.

Day four of Creations on Feb 17 at BurJuman, a key sponsor of DSF 2008, presented the works of Pakistani designer Huma Qamae, and Indian designer, Mandira Wirk. Huma Qamae concentrated on a niche area of designing – sports wear – and displayed her collection of casual and luxury sports wear.

Mandira Wirk, showed her expertise in evening wear with long flowing dresses in varying hues and delicate embroidery. Simple and easy, with special cuts, fall, finesse and style, embroideries are a statement of the Mandira’s works and they emerge as textural strokes in her creations.

It was the first time that Mandira participated in a Creations edition and the designer said that she was very impressed with the overall arrangements for Creations 2008. “By being able to showcase my collection in Dubai, I could also gauge the high level of fashion awareness among women in Dubai. Their taste for design and fashion accessories goes to show that Dubai is on the right track in promoting fashion,” she said.

On February 19, the MAHE Manipal Dubai Campus will present its collection of mixed wear in the first show while US designer, Heike Jarick, will present her 2008 Spring Colletion. Heike Jarick is known for her unusual and luxurious fabric choices which she researches all over the world. Her choice of colors is exquisite and harmonious with the of kilter cuts revealing sensuality in unexpected places which flattering through cuts and draping the body shape.
